Do You Compare Your Body?

Does this sound familiar to you? You are on the beach and you compare your body to other women’s bodies – thinking – “she has thinner thighs!” or “her stomach is so flat after having 3 kids!”

Or you are at a party and you scan the room checking out women’s bodies and comparing them to your own. There’s a term for this…“Comparisonitis” – not really useful at all because the more we compare the more we despair!

Think of nature, think of trees for example…

Is a bamboo tree more attractive than a baobab tree? Does the baobab tree wish it were thinner and hollow like the bamboo?

Or does the baobab wish it had purple flowers like the jacaranda tree?

The idea of trees comparing themselves to each other seems rather silly but we women (and men) do this regularly!

The truth is that there will always be someone who is prettier, more talented, who has more money than you, just like there will always be people who have less than you in all these ways.

The problem with comparing is that it brings superiority and inferiority. When we don’t compare ourselves to others, inferiority and superiority become irrelevant.

Whether you are a small shrub or a big towering tree, it doesn’t matter – you are worthy as you are and you are needed as you are – a rose is just as valuable as a desert rose.

The way to peace with your body is not by comparing yourself to others, but by looking to see whether you are fulfilling your own potential and showing up as the best version of your unique self.

This weekend, let’s embrace all our different shapes and sizes!
